Description: Having being absent from the Blyde River since the severe flood in January 2012, these uncommmon birds seem to be returning now that the bank vegetation is recovering and there being lots of small fish in clear water. May they multiply and grace the waterways as before! Photographs by iSpotter, Maritza.

Was found in a garden close to a dam (see photo 4 above)which was surrounded by bush on uninhabited land. The owner had heard a bird fly into a window, then found it at ground level, stunned. He picked it up and put it into a tree in the garden. It remained in the garden for a few days then was found dead but no sign of injury. The Giant Kingfisher has been seen at the same site.
