Description: Wild plants growing along the garden fence; coarsely hairy forb with erect stems and limited branching from the lower stem; height to 1m bearing small alternated leaves, pale pink buds open into white flowers, c. 1cm diameter, during mid morning and later turn purple as they fade by mid afternoon (these photos taken 9.30am before flowers had opened). Fruit spherical of 5 segments splitting wide open to expose seeds with dense, long, white hairs. Photographing the whole plant was unfortunately forgotten upon observing the spider and caterpillars.

Description: In sedge swamp Young leaves are folded in half along the midrib. Thus, if a hole is eaten by an insect at this young stage it leaves symmetrical holes on either side when the leaf opens. This is the case for the leaf on the left of the picture.

Environment. In the grass land, 300 mm high.
Plant. Straggling herb
Leaves. Ovate. Shiny in front, hairy with marked veins on reverse. Short stalk.
Flowers. Isolated 30mm yellow flowers.
Bracts. Thin narrow hairy bracts. Characteristic (Pooley).
References. Pooley:KZN p284, Manning:WFSA p220. No subspecies in previous two.
