Do you have views from the side and bottom?
And where did you find it that you dont know where it came from?
now it makes sense
i found it in a packet of brown lentils, says on the packet imported from either canada or australia. looks like the cheeseweed is big there. I just knew it wasn't from SA.
thanks all for the info!!
Brown lentils??
The ones you through in stews? Good grief! How did it get in there?! What happened to quality control...
Maybe the Aussies knew it was coming to us :-P
Not only did they annex our acacia genus, they are sending us cheeseweed instead of lentils! Just another reason not to like them ;-)
Cheeseweed??
Where does this come from?
Cute!
Am I missing something.
Cheese -> weed
I am assuming that it (the cheeseweed, Malva sp.) occurred in the cultivated lentil field and contaminated the crop.
For interest, it seems pikavaai (Christian) is not the only one to whom this has happened, see the forum:
Ta
New name to me: ta.
Are you going to follow the forums advice and grow it? Or have you already cooked it.
Stew a la Malva
If it was in my lentils I am not so sure I would cook it! But then again, maybe a culinary adventure? (On second thought, every time in the kitchen for me is a culinary adventure, and not because I'm a chef, but because you never now what's at the end of road, edible or not!)
Maybe Christian should try and grow it, although I would suggest to please not allow it to spread.
ill try to grow it!!
oh, now there is a challenge!! I actually found three in total..opened one up and it seems like one seed per sector..
i'll follow up in a few weeks with more photos if the seeds grow..
pre-order seedlings now to avoid disappointment!!
not cooked..
yes, im going to see what comes from the seeds. let me know if you want to pre-oder a plant!!
Nice photos on your flicker
Nice photos on your flicker site by the way!

Fruit
This is a fruit from a Malvaceae plant, for example see:
http://www.minnesotawildflowers.info/flower/common-mallow
https://www.google.co.za/search?q=malvaceae+capsule&source=lnms&tbm=isch...
It is a fruit comprised of quite a few carpels, they are the 'segments' of the 'circle', if I can put it like that, and each of them contains a seed.
Very nice indeed!
