Different species?

You really think they're the same species?

I've emailed Natal Museum for the Snail Book and am holding thumbs. My ignorance of molluscs is truly profound.

7000th iSpot Invertebrate Record

7000th iSpot Invertebrate Record

Why acknowledge the 7000th record?

Well nominally there are probably about 70 000 species of invertebrate on the subcontinent.

So this record is 10% of the records for 70 000 species if each observations was a different species. But we have lots of duplicates so the actual number of species is probably closer to 3500 species, many unidentified (some unidentifiable) to species.
But it is a significant start! Please keep it up.

Two species

Since buying his book, I've had occasion to correspond with Prof Dai Herbert and send him the series of pics making up the failed predatory attempt by the Common Cannibal (Natalina cafra) in the linked Ob (http://ispot.org.za/node/185662#comment-82686 ).

Dai confirmed the DARK, keeled snail in this Ob is the Keeled Bark Snail (Edouardia carinifera), but, "It looks like you had two species of bark snail, the dark one is carinifera and the lighter one looks like natalensis (this usually has a brown line at the shell periphery)."

I'll link to another Ob.
