Willowy shrub or tree to 8 m. Leaves sessile, discolorous, lanceolate, margins crenate, base auriculate. Flowers in terminal paniculate cymes, tubular with anthers included, white to purple with orange throat. For whatever reason, I had difficulty separating Tarchonanthus and Buddleja salviifolia in the field. Tarchonanthus littoralis has alternate leaves and the Buddleja's leaves are opposite.
