Description: Some of my bush children :-) This pair of steenbok live on the little bit of renosterveld left on the farm - its pretty grazed down with croplands all around, but Steenbok do well on the edges. ... and it looks like there is a little new one on the way!

Description: A family group of 3 (ram, doe and kid) moved across the road to an outcrop, in which there was an overhang of rock. The ram moved to high ground, stopping briefly to browse, while the doe moved into the overhang and appeared to bite off a piece of rock and chew on it.See previously posted sequence of this. The ram appeared to be on guard on high ground while to doe and kid where below in the overhang, a vulnerable confined position. The kid stayed around the doe, browsing, following the doe up the outcrop when she moved up.

Description: A family group of 3 crossed the road, moved to an oucrop. One accompanied by a young, presumably the doe, moved into and overhang, appeared to deliberately break off a selected piece of rock from the sidewall of overhang a chewed on it for several minutes, at least 4 recorded on camera. Presumably the rock contained some mineral needed as a diet supplement. Only one of the 3 in the group did this, the other adult stood guard on high ground, very obviously alert. Rock an argillaceous bed within the Tchando Formation of the Table Mountain Sandtone Group.
