Fishy Folks Unite!

Taking a glance at these forums(fora?) every once in a while, it niggled me that the Fish Forum listed it topics as "n/a".

Granted, there aren't fish spotting safari's and one does not find popular fish checklists in the book stores.

Yet, there must be scuba enthusists with cameras out there. The scuba sites abound with fish and other pictures. Let's invite the divers we know to contribute here.

As for freshwater fishes: There aren't many non-destructive or non-injurous techniques for recording fish observations. Even so, catch-and-release recreational fishing is a growing trend, so let's ask these folks to contribute as well.

Oh, and there are many interesting fish observations on iSpot already. Thanks for those, but I'd like to see many more.

Groups:

Fishy!

Invites: that is what is needed! To fishers, divers and aficionados.
A little pressure on some of the provincial experts may also help a lot.

iSpot is also a great way to officially document or record any records!

But what would really help is if someone could put the fin key into the iSpot Bayesian keys so that they can be used on cellphone!

that sounds good!!

Does anyone know any scuba divers?? I'm keen on fishing, but don't really get time. If we can get to encourage more people to put a little bit of effort into getting some fish observations, either through fishing, diving or river surveys. This will be a great kick-start! Once there are more regular users with good reputations in fish, more observations will get likely identifications and a lot more can be learned about fish in Southern Africa.

Fishing on Saturday morning :)

Good nows is I'm going fishing with my dad on Saturday morning with the throw-net, so hopefully will catch a few species. Hope that fish has been easy to find and well done that we broke the monthly record for fish observations in December! Let's do it again! Anyone get hold of an expert yet?
