Description: Baobab next to R527. For many years a popular rest stop for tourists, including tour buses. There must be thousands of photographs all over the world with groups and individuals posing in front of this specimen and the escarpment as backdrop. Unfortunately its trunk was carrying the ugly scars of decades of carved grafitti. The land owner adjoining the road reserve finally had enough and built a security wall around the tree, filling the inside with blade wire. This change to our landscape made front pages on the local rags.

Description: Picture taken from the top of Mapungubwe Hill - the site where the golden rhino was found. Loved the combination of beautiful scenery and fascinating cultural history. Almost like a little Eqypt in South Africa.
