Hmmm...

A puzzler.

My gut reaction was O. glabra, but the plants seem very hairy for O. glabra and the bulb seems a) too big and b) to have too long a beak (extended upper section).

Can you give an estimate of bulb size here? And is the bulb ridged?

I really struggled to find a

I really struggled to find a bulb, the soil was hard dry and clay so the bulbs broke off. I am not even sure if this bulb i found came from this plant, but does seem to be an Oxalis bulb?, and there were not any other oxalis species evident there, so to answer your question the bulb was small, between 1 and 2 cm long, and i do not recall any ridges. if it means anything there was not a lot of this species around...very few...

I...don't know

That is an Oxalis bulb, but might not necessarily be this species' bulb.

It would fit very nicely into O. glabra, if it weren't so darned hairy...

yar, i kind of know O glabra

yar, i kind of know O glabra now from two other collections in the area, and this guy had a very different feel about it, the leaves are quite a bit shorter, fewer, narrower and the whole plant is quite slender and taller than O glabra, but i have close to zero experience of variation in Oxalis species, so don't have a clue what to think of it. The habitat in clay rich renosterveld is O glabra not fussy? is it worth posting the specimen to you?

Yes please

I can't think of anything it might be...
